ENDOMETRIOSIS: CA-125 in Endometriosis, 8.4?From: Christina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 20 Sep 2007 16:08:06 -0500 (CDT)
I'm hoping a doctor will respond to this! I went to my OB/GYN Tuesday for the results of my ultrasound/blood test. I was diagnosed last year with endometriosis (he never told me what stage, but I'm assuming mild since he said he removed a small amount of adhesions) and my pelvic pain has returned and I'm having very infrequent periods. He sent me for an ultrasound which came back "Normal Pelvic ultrasound." He also sent me for routine blood work which also included a CA-125 test. When he was going over the results with me, he had circled the CA-125 result (8.4). He mentioned this was a little high so it made him think the endometriosis had returned. He told me to wait a month and then call back if I wasn't better for him to schedule another lap surgery. (what.. a month??) I've tried to research if 8.4 is a high number or not, but I can't find anything that says that. Everything I've read says that anything below 35 is normal. So I have to wonder if he even knows what he's talking about? Do I want to trust him to perform another lap on me?? I've even gone so far as to look in medical journals about it. (you see.. cancer runs in my family really bad so CA-125 scares me..). I work in a company that provides publishing services for medical journals, so I have access to them all, but I can't understand all that medical language enough to know what I'm reading. Thanks for reading my long post!
