ENDOMETRIOSIS: Endometriosis on ultrasound?? Surgery 4 months ago -- how could it be there now???From: Michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Sep 2007 13:59:48 -0500 (CDT)
I had laparoscopic surgery 4 months ago for an ovarian cystectomy. I also had an endometrial ablation at the same time. During the first postop appointment, my doctor told me that it was a "mess" in there. I guess I should have asked him what he meant, instead I just assumed he was talking about the various unexpected "surprise" findings that came up during surgery in relation to the cyst. He never said anything about there being endometriosis in there, although he knew that I had had laparoscopy surgery and had been diagnosed with that 10 years earlier. If it was there, it seems like he would have said something, wouldn't he???? Well, now it is 4 months later and I have been having a lot of pelvic pain that has been increasing each month since surgery. The endometrial ablation was a success in that I now have amenorrhea, so the pain is not linked to menstruation, although it does increase in severity around the time ovulation or a period might occur. I went back to my doctor and he sent me for an ultrasound. Now, of course, the ultrasound techs aren't really supposed to "let on" about anything they see, but she started asking me if I had ever been diagnosed with endometriosis. I told her that I had, and she just said, "I thought so." Now I have to wait another week before I see my doctor to go over the results, and I am getting really worried. Is it possible that she could see endometrial implants on ultrasound? I don't know how they could be there so quickly, especially if there was no mention of endometriosis 4 months ago. Can they grow that quickly??
