GENERAL: gynecologist necessary?

I usually have my pap smear done every year by my primary care physician, but my husband thinks I should go to a gynecologist. I have occasional itching, and sometimes get yeast infections. I am 28 years old, and have never had a baby. Is it necessary for every woman to have a gynecologist?
