Re: CONTRACEPTION: Having to do with birth control and pregnancyFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 23 Aug 2007 11:56:02 -0500 (CDT)
In general, it is felt that if you conceive while on a birth control method, it will not affect a pregnancy. I encourage women to continue on the method until a pregnancy is confirmed, just in case they aren't pregnant. Stopping a method in the middle can set you up to conceive, because of the hormonal shift that happens at that point in time. The chemicals used in the normal birth control methods are synthetics, and lower and lower doses of the synthetics. Very sensitive, and that is why pregnancy does occur. But in general it is felt that these synthetics do not impact a pregnancy. Or, no association has been found. Perhaps other gyn providers have comments.
