With a large cystocele, often immediate relief can be obtained with a pessary, a diaphragm like ring that goes in the vagina and holds things in. Some women use them for years. A tampon if it will stay in can give some temporary relief as well. The discomfort of a cystocele does not routinely require pain medicine of any sort so I am suspicious that you have a pelvic pain condition or a bladder pain condition that is not being treated. Rarely is surgery for a cystocele anything but elective in nature.

Make sure your doctors are aware that you have severe pain and that they work it up completely. Many women live for years with mildy annoying symptoms of cystocele, your symptoms do not fit the mold for cystocele.
