CHRONICPAIN: Chronic Pelvic PainFrom: Trace (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 9 Aug 2007 23:51:32 -0500 (CDT)
I am 37 years old. I suffer from daily pelvic pain in my lower left side. Staring with my very first period at age 12, I would have severe menstrual pain two to three days before my period would start and it would last about two to three days of my period. My periods were never very long, only about four days and I did not bleed alot. Through my high school and college years, the pain got more intense and my period became very eratic (about 3 periods a year). I was prescribed very birth control pills, OTC's and Rx med. to help with the pain. However, by the time I was 21 or 22, the pain became daily. When I was 24, I began Depo Provera injections and I was pain free for 12 years. April of last year after a "bad" bone scan (osteoporosis), I was taken off of the Depo and put on a birth control pill. About a couple of weeks after my Depo injection would have been due, I began to have severe pain again. I was prescribed Naproxen, Flexaril, and Perocet (at different times)for the pain. I was put back on Depo in September of last year, but the pain continued. March through June of this year I had Lupron injections; they did not work. I had an Ultrasound and MIR, my ovaries and tubes looked ok. Last Friday (Aug. 30), I had a laproscopy with the possible removal of my left ovary and tube it there was endometriosis. However, my ovary and tubes were find. My gyno and I have spoken about a hysterectomy, but she wants me to try a pain specialist first. I know a hysterectomy is not a 100% guarntee for relief, but I'm in so much pain (not to mention having nausea and being worn out all the time)that I am ready for something radical. This pain has really affected my life in a major way.
