CHRONICPAIN: botox for chronic pelvic pain?? please advise..From: jo (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 6 Aug 2007 15:08:24 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with getting botox shots for pelvic pain. I am in my 8th month of severe pelvic pain after having my left ovary removed for large endometrioma. My pelvic floor muscles are in spasm and it causes tremendous pain from too much activity, heavy bloating, sexual activity, or IBS related problems. I have had a clean colonoscopy so I am not worried about anything serious there. I have been in physical therapy for this problem for approximately 8 weeks, but have made no major improvement. I take vicoden and B&O suppositories on my very worst days. I am anxious to return to my normal active life and my doctor suggested that botox might be the next step if my pain continues. There is a possibility that I have adenomyosis, but my doc does not think that it is contributing to lower pelvic pain (feels like I'm carrying a bowling ball right above my cervix). I recently had a Mirena inserted to help with my painful and very heavy periods and my body is still adjusting. Since it was inserted I have periodic burning cramps in my lower abdomen that stop me in my tracks, but they come and go. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
