I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks, but the baby was only about 8-9 week size and so apparently had died a few weeks earlier. The baby was a week behind size at 8 weeks (i.e. measured 7 weeks), and the CNM said she could see a heartbeat but I couldn't even when she tried to show me. The baby probably died a week or two later, and I didn't miscarry till about 12 weeks (hormones from the ovaries carried the pregnancy along). I don't know if the baby can "catch up". Since you had IUI there is no question of the dates, or what size the baby should be. The good thing is there is a heartbeat, as long as you have that, you have hope. Getting frequent ultrasounds to keep track of things is probably the best. IF the baby is not growing right and miscarries, it means there was probably something wrong, and it was not anything you did. (This is what they told me about my miscarriage.) Good luck.
