MENORRHAGIA: Severe Consistent Problems Please HelpFrom: Ashley (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Jul 2007 12:57:41 -0500 (CDT)
I started my period when I was very young and it was pretty irregular and heavy so I was put on birth control. This did not do much to help it and I was bleeding up to 3 months at a time. By highschool I was having episodes where I would bleed excessively, have severe cramping, cold sweats, hot flashes, muscles weakness, and not be able to get myself out of bed. I would have to be carried to the bathroom and I was going through a super plus tampon in an hour or less. They tried me on depo provera shots but I also bleed through these. I went off to college but I was sent home within 3 months to have surgery. I ended up having a laproscopic procedure to check for endometriosis and a D and C. There was no endometriosis found and nothing else was found except for a cyst on my left ovary which my doctor did not want to remove because he was fearful that scaring may cause me to not be able to have children. For two years I just kept up with the depo shots. I was tested by doctors for thyroid and other problems and everything came back normal. I sought help from another OB/GYN doctor and was told that I had three options, surgery again, getting pregnant, or lupron shots. The first two options were not even options for me at that time so I jumped at the lupron. I took the lupron every month for 9 months and still was bleeding and having episodes. After coming off the lupron within 3 months I was pregnant with my son. I have been off of birth control for almost a year. During my period I cannot get out of bed and I have all of the symptoms I had back in high school. While I was working at home I have now had to go out and get a job outside of the home and this is really interferring with that. I have passed out at work, been told by people that I look ghostly ill and pale, and spend most of those days locked in the bathroom. I am still bleeding through a super plus tampon and a pad in under an hour and sometime under 30 minutes yet I have been tested again for defecincies and nothing shows up. Everything I have researched and looked at suggests cancer, lukemia, or lupus yet I cannot find a doctor who will test me or check me for any of this because of my age. I know that this is not normal and it is now really interferring with my normal daily functioning with work and taking care of my child. I am hoping that someone on here may have had a similar experience and been given a diagnosis or can provide any insight. I know this is kind of long but I really do appreciate anything that I can get back.
