Re: GENERAL: burning urination - non-bacterial - non-viral - UTI or something elseFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Jul 2007 09:11:05 -0500 (CDT)
1. With no initial urine culture to identify a possible causative organism, it is hard to say whether or not you had a bladder infection. 2. Pyridium is commonly given for bladder spasms, and really helps relieve some of the associated conditions. 3. It is possible now that you have a yeast infection, even from only one dose of nitrofuran. If it was a three day dose, you received one third of the medication, so that is quite a bit. 4. It is also possible that what yo had all along was a yeast infection, which can cause a lot of burning and swelling. So, trying a yeast cream might be helpful at this point in time. 5. Your story certainly supports why it is important to get a urine culture before treatment is initiated, so that the organism causing the bladder infection can be identified and appropriately treated. 6. It also sounds like this particular medication isn't one you should ever take again, so be sure to note that in your personal medical record. 7. I would drink tons of water to flush any bacteria out of your system. I would suspect a yeast infection is now the cause of the burning.
