ECTOPIC: the pregnancy AFTER an ectopic oneFrom: lynn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 14 Jul 2007 23:17:01 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I'm just curious. It seems there is no standard for when to start HCG bloodwork and ultrasounds for someone whose prior pregnancy was ectopic. I had an ectopic a year ago - the surgeon said the tube and the omentum on that side had scar tissue, but the other tube looked OK. The scarred tube was removed laparoscopically. Fast forward. I got pregant again - the person in the practice who got back to me wanted to start bloodwork ASAP. Unfortunately, I miscarried. Now I'm pregnant again - and this time it is recommended that I start my bloodwork at about 5 weeks (I'm not having any bleeding or cramping). I'm guessing that's because they'll know if they can see something on the ultrasound by then. Is there a standars? What do you do in your practice?
