PREGNANCY: Cyst or free fluid in cul de sac regionFrom: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 13 Jul 2007 19:47:07 -0500 (CDT)
I am a 25 yr old female who is currently 33 weeks 4 days pregnant with second child. At 10 weeks I had two sharp pains in lower abdomen, the next morning I had heavy bleeding. Ultrasound seemed to indicate complete placenta previa with partial abrubtion being the cause of the bleeding.( i will note here that these ultrasounds were done using older equipment as they took place in Central America.. and the doctors there are maybe not as well trained??)) They also noted a 4 cm 'csyt' in cul de sac region. The MD thought it was on the right ovary. But four days later with follow up ultrasound, it seemed to another technician to be free fluid rather than cyst and he identified it as being in the cul de sac region, not on the ovary. I was on three weeks of bed rest and the bleeding stopped gradually within 2 weeks. At follow up ultrasound with original MD (who diagnosed as ov cyst) at 5-6 months preg doctor still thought it was cyst, but noticed the placenta was posterior and concluded the uterus has been oddly contracting appearing to be tissue blocking cervix OR a blood clot had appeared to be placenta covering cervix, in any casee the placenta previa turned out to be misdiagnosis. I didn't think to question this at this point but now at 33 weeks I just got another ultrasound here in US (all other in C.A.) They assumed it was this ovary but both the tech and obgyn initially said that looks almost more like.. a hematoma or something... in the cul de sac region. so a hematoma as i research it is a collection of blood, so this makes me think, Could this be free blood that had 'leaked' thru fallopian tube??? but unfortunately this is while at home AFTER talking to obgyn.... so what do you think any docs out there who can tell me how likely this is, becasue they want to do a ceasarean in case it is a cyst and could obstruct the delivery. This feels like robbery to me! I loved giving birth to my first child it was the most spiritually powerful experience of my life and i was really looking forward to doing it again and allowing my daughter, now three to be a part of it.... Is there a way to diagnose this a free blood and thus go a head with a safe natural delivery??
