MENORRHAGIA: interrupted periods or just ovulating and bleeding twice?

In the past 35 days, I have had spotting and cramping at what would have been around ovulation; bleeding with slight cramping at what would have been my period but only lasting 2 days; followed by cramping and slight bleeding about 7 days later; followed by bleeding for 1 1/2 days about 10 days after that; then some kind of "shedding" of flesh-tone/brown thick mucousy-membranous type stuff but the consistency of snot or a mucous plug (as in pre-labor/delivery); followed by sudden cramping and heavy, heavy bleeding and pain at day 35 that is now continuing much like my usual terrible periods but seemingly "thinner" and lighter-colored blood ... weak-ish orange-y/red ... yet still punctuated by frequent large, dark clots.

I can bleed through a super-plus tampon in 20 minutes. I use pads at all times, because I never know when I will have bleeding or spotting. I have twice-monthly cramping and bleeding every month ... this is the first time that it has happened 4 times. Periods are usually 24-27 days apart ... not 35.

I do not take any birth control pills nor have any external or internal hormonal stimulation. The only medication I take is neurontin for nerve pain, and I have taken that for years ... so no changes. I am 39 and at a weight much lower than doctors believe a period can even occur. I know none of this is normal, but is it sympomatic of some condition, diagnosis, phase of life, lifestyle issue or descriptive of something others have experienced?
