MENORRHAGIA: question re: dermoids and uterine thicknessFrom: yiddishkeit7 (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 8 Jul 2007 18:40:22 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I am a 29 year old mother of five who had a tubal ligation last August. Since then, i have had horrible periods where I bleed quite heavy and have horrible cramps where I have to take 2 advil several times a day. I have had a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy and d and c. Since I am still having quite a bit of pain and heavy bleeding still, my family doc did an ultrasound 2 weeks ago. The results say my uterus is normal, thickness is 7 mm (I was in the middle of my cycle when it was done) also it said there were 2 echogenic nodules on my right ovary and one on my left. and that it was probably dermoids. The use of the word probably worries me slightly. Can this turn into ovarian cancer when I am older? can ovarian cancer be mistaken for dermoids? what exactly is an echogenic nodule? why are my periods so horrible yet have a normal ultrasound? I was told by one ob several, years ago that I had adenomyosis, but when I switched hospitals with baby #5, the new ob told me she didn't see any evidence of that. Thanks.
