Thanks to all for the advice. I am not an at-risk user (I don't smoke, blood pressure and cholesterol are excellent, and I exercise regularly and watch my diet). My main reason for wanting to switch to the copper IUD is to stop using synthetic hormones and prevent some of the perimenopausal weight gain. As my hormone leves drop, I intend to use bio-identical HRT. But, my question still remains: other than unpredictable periods, what side effects can I expect from abruptly stopping the synthetic hormones I have been taking for 30 years?
