Re: GENERAL: Lost IUD problems?From: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 26 Jun 2007 09:28:37 -0500 (CDT)
Interesting. I would want a bit more information before agreeing to surgery. I guess I would feel that if the IUD was placed wrong, and no none noticed, and its not doing what it needs to do, and you will need surgery to remove it, you shouldn't have to pay a penny for anything associated with it. The x rays, the ultasounds, and the surgery. The provider made an error, and didn't even notice it despite your saying you were having pain, etc, etc. Your provider wasn't sensitive to you and your concerns. I would certaintly talk with him, and get all of your facts. It wasn't intentional, but it was a medical error. If your insurance covers everything, its not a big issue. But, it is a medical error, and someone needs to cover the costs. I also would get a totally second opinion, again getting specific details about where the IUD is and how it would be removed. This is a very unusual sitation, and requires full informed consent. Usually when an IUD is placed, the provider checks for placement, and can see the string of the IUD at the cervix. I don't know. I would be interested in the comments of others on this list. This is just my perspective. Hopefully you are using some other relaible method of birth control, as this obviously isn't working.
