PREGNANCY: Cerclage removal problems.

Hi everyone and thanks in advance.

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and have a true incompentent cervix.

My first pregnancy was diagnosed with incompent cervix too late (21 weeks and already dialated) and the cerclage placed at that time did not help delay the labor and I had my son at 25 weeks who survived one day.

My last pregnancy the cerclage was placed at about 16-17 weeks and my water broke at 37 weeks the cerclage removed and my daughter was born. She had some complications but is a healthy little 2 yo now.

This pregnancy I had the cerclage placed at 16 weeks. I have had multiple trips to the hospital, placed on nephedipine and total bedrest. The doctors attempted to remove the cerclage at 36 weeks and could not see the stitch to cut it. They sent me to the hospital and they couldnt do it either. The doctor said she might cut the cervix (which is swollen around the stich) which may trigger labor and said she would be more comfortable removing it at 37 weeks. I was booked in for today but the hospital rang and cancelled - apparently it was crazy busy today and suggested early next week.

Finally my question...... why cant I just leave the stitch in until I go into labor? They are pretty certain the removal will trigger labor so why not leave it in until the baby is ready and I go into labor naturally? What is the risks?

Thanks again!
