POSTPARTUMEDEMA: Chronic postpartum edemaFrom: Grammy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 3 Jun 2007 08:14:33 -0500 (CDT)
My 25 year old daughter is 10 weeks postpartum (36 week pregnancy duration) resulting in a healthy baby. Edema presented itself in about the 32nd week with no elevation in B/P or ecclampsia. Delivery was unremarkable (even textbook). She is experiencing pitting edema in both legs, ankles, feet, and hands. No pain, redness, or heat is involved. The postpartum exam revealed nothing. Are there any further tests needed or any particular questions that should be addressed with her physician. She is 6'3" and 305lbs. with a very large frame. She also has a history of incontinence at night that was poorly controlled with medication until the pregnancy. The meds were discontinued at that time and postpartum were resumed with like results. She has no back pain, no pain on urination, urine is clear and adequate in volume. Any help would be appreciated.
