PREGNANCY: Bicornate uterusFrom: Jenny King (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 May 2007 18:31:08 -0500 (CDT)
I have just had my second baby (six weeks ago) and found out after the elective c-section at 38.5 weeks that I have a bicornuate uterus with a pronounced septum. My baby had mild IUGR and a weight that was just below the 10th percentile as well as being in an unstable lie during pregnancy. He also had a two vessel cord! I had chronic pain in my upper fundus for the last month of pregnancy. From what I have found out it is amazing to have made it this far with the pregnancy and that my son is fine! He spent some time in the special care baby unit for feeding and temperature issue but is otherwise doing well. My first son was born by emergency c-section 4 and a half years ago due to a complete placenta abuptio and was also IUGR. My question is how could my first OB/Gyn (different doctors for each birth) have missed this significant uterine abnormality? Would it have made a difference to the management of my second pregnancy at all? I guess I am just very very lucky to have two healthy little boys!
