PREGNANCY: Concerned about Fetal Alcohol SyndromeFrom: Green (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 May 2007 17:58:18 -0500 (CDT)
I took a First Response pregnancy test before my missed period by two days, infact I took two and each shows it detects the LH hormone and indicates I am pregnant. I am concerned since I have been consuming alcohol during the preconception stage and worst of all most of the consumption has taken place in the 3rd week of gestation or the 7th to 8th day after conception. According to the due date calendar online I conceived 9 days ago. I have hopes to begin my period this weekend inspite of the tests. I have been experiencing the same spotting and craps that are usual the week before I start my period. The thought has crossed my mind of terminating the pregancy due to the chance of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Animal studies show that on the 7th or 8th day of gestation ethanol has the greatest effect on the development of caranialfacial and midline forebrain causing abnormal development. This, they say, is equivalant to the 3 week of human gestation.
