HORMONEINBALANCE: Irregular heartbeat, palpitations, other strange symptoms with PMS - possible? From: StacieC (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 May 2007 08:32:07 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I'm 33 years old, a mom of three (one natural, 2 C-sections) with a tubal. I have a question regarding a possible hormone inbalance or something else menstral related that could be causing these weird symptoms/problems. Every month, about two weeks before my period starts (probably right about when ovulation occurs) I develop palpitations and chest pain. I become aware of every beat of my heart, and I can feel the beats it misses, and then the ones where it double beats. I have been hospitalized for the chest pain, had a stress test, even a cardiac catheterization - all normal, but I continue to feel it. I noticed about 4 months ago that it happens at the same time of the month, usually about the time I'm noticing the increase of discharge and change in texture of discharge associated with ovulation. (I used to be real big on the natural family planning method) This will go on until within a day or so of the start of my flow, then it goes away, replaced with an intense soreness in my chest centered to the left side in the area of my heart. Something else I noticed, especially during the winter months, is that about 1 week before my flow starts, my immune systems seems to drop terribly. For about 6 months in a row, I developed a bad cold/virus/flu that would start about a week before my period, then subside a day or two after I started. I don't know exactly how long this has been going on, it just took a while to figure out it was the same time of the month every month. I also suffer from chronic daily headaches. When I say daily, I do mean *every day.* My Dr. has tried the normal meds, beta-blockers, SSRI's, even anti-convulsants. The only one that even touched these headaches was Topamax, and the side effects it created for me were almost dangerous - I had to stop taking it. I've suffered with these headaches as long as I can remember- starting somewhere around 13 to 15 years old. No one can tell me why, and no one can make them stop. Lately, they have gotten worse. CT of the brain, negative. MRI of the brain, negative. I also grow hair on my chin and my neck. It's frustrating, a problem I've been dealing with for years, with no resolve. I do not have a GYN right now. I did call and arrange an appt. with one that I've heard is excellent, and he can see me in August. I've been to my reg. doc a bunch, and I've even seen a neurologist, who can only find a slightly bulging disc at c6-c7 - not enough to explain all this other stuff. I'm about out of ideas and really desperate for help. Stacie
