Re: PCOS: PCOFrom: Melissa L (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 May 2007 15:32:09 -0500 (CDT)
I have PCOS and LOVE the results of using the Metformin to control it! I was concerned about fertility issues, as the original poster is now, and when I spoke to my general prectitioner about the issues (2 years with no BCP and no protection without a pregnancy), he spoke to my GYN and we all decided to give Metformin a try to help control the PCOS while we waited for my insurance to approve a reproductive endo.... before the consult even made it to the insurance company, I found out I was pregnant! So, as Pat said in an original reply, some women with PCOS do concieve very quickly while on Met, and it is another option for treating the S/S of PCOS (it can also continue to treat the condition for at least the first trimester after pregnancy has been confirmed as well, where as a BCP can not, for obvious reasons, I also read a few research articles which have proven that Metformin has helped prevent the first trimester miscarriages we, as women with PCOS, are nore prone to) I also was not ovulating and the metformin helped with that, and I was taking it for about a month before I found out about the pregnancy. One question for the original poster, though, it seems like you concieving is almost an emergancy situation? You have stated a few times that you need to concieve immediately... is there a reason you are trying to concieve immediately? Or am I reading the wrong inflection into your posts? (and if I am I am sorry for that) Remember, concieving with PCOS is not impossible, but can prove to be a long, hard, and emotional journey for many couples. Just don't give up, and always believe that, if it is supposed to be, you will have a child in the way that is best for you and at the time that is best for you.
