GYNECOLOGIC: Still in pain after laparoscopy/cyst removal and frustrated with doctor's response! From: Anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 24 May 2007 20:14:15 -0500 (CDT)
I just got back from my GYN's office, where I had my second postop followup. I am still in a considerable amount of pain on the left side, which was the side with the ovarian cyst. It hurts severely despite taking Aleve twice a day, Advil once a day, and a prescription pain pill at night. I stay up half the night because of the pain. The doctor was running an hour behind, so suffice it to say I got very little time with him today. He did not ask me to describe the pain -- just simply stated that the incisions were healing well and the ovary was not swollen, stop taking Aleve and Advil (which he was the one to prescribe using for the last few weeks) because that could be prolonging the bleeding and instead take Tylenol and add one pain pill during the day in addition to the one I take at night. When I stated I did not want to take the pain pills during the day because I had to take care of my kids (and I don't like to drive when using them), he told me that was the reason for my prolonged recovery. He claimed my response told him that I was doing too much and that was the reason I was still in pain and not recovering. What??? He claimed that my answer told him what my priorities were -- apparently I should have chosen to drug myself and not pick my kids up from school! "Do you need more Darvocet? No, then I will see you in a couple of weeks. Goodbye!" I came away totally frustrated. I understand that he was really behind, but I really would have liked some explanation other than take more drugs and lay around some more. In the meantime, I sit here with excruciating pain in my pelvis, lower back, and thigh on the left and no answers. Has anyone else been through this prolonged pain after laparoscopy/ovarian cyst removal that might be able to share some insight or their own frustrations? Thanks so much!
