Hi!

I am 31 years old and had my first baby 4 months ago....my baby was OP so I ended up with a forceps delivery, medio-lateral episiotomy and a third degree tear. Everything seemed to heal up just fine...no infection or lasting incontinence.

Question: My husband and I attempted to have intercourse for the first time since the birth of our baby 4 months ago, and found it impossible due to pain. The pain was not around the perinium, but inside my vagina. Is this to be expected? Is this normal?

At my 8 week follow-up appointment with my obstetrician for a pap smear and exam, she had to use the smallest speculum they made as the normal sized one could not be used due to burning pain...with lots of lubrication, the small speculum did not hurt me.

Sorry if this is too much information, but when I feel inside my vagina, the side where the tear occurred feels hard and cord-like...I assume this is the cause of my pain when attempting intercourse with my husband.

Should I follow-up with my obs. again? or should I just give it more time to heal?
