Re: CONTRACEPTION: Continuous Use of BCPFrom: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 23 May 2007 19:34:55 -0500 (CDT)
Triphasic pills can NOT be used effectively for this purpose. Due to the way in which Tripashic Pills work (Ortho TriCyclen, TriPhasil, for example), if you take them continuously, you will have major problems with breakthrough bleeding. The hormones change throughout the pack of pills.....I think from a larger amount of hormone to a lower amount. You will want to talk with your MD about a Monophasic pill (same amount of hormone throughout the pack of pills....OrthoNovum, Yazmin, Yaz, for example). I take Yaz continously, and while I did have a couple of days of breakthrough, it was for me at least, more than likely due to another medical condition which affected the absorption of the pill. I've been taking them continously for 3 1/2 months and only had this happen during one pack, and that was when I was sick with something else. I hope this has made sense. I am a bit lacking in sleep right now, so I do apologize. If anyone needs further clarification, please let me know.
