STD: Chlamydia Testing Accuracy?From: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 20 May 2007 23:49:00 -0500 (CDT)
I was wondering about the accuracy of a Chlamydia test. I have only been having sex for the past two years. I waited until I was almost 26. The man I have been with is the only man I have ever been with sexually. Before him I had never had oral or regular sex. About two weeks ago I went to the doctor because of some weird periods. I tested positive for bacterial vaginosis the next day. My doctor sent a prescription in for me and I thought that was it. However, five days go by and she calls me and tells me I have tested positive for Chlamydia. I was floored. I thought my boyfriend must have cheated or something, but my doctor reassured me that he could have had it for years from his ex-wife. I didn't know what to do. I called him crying. He said it must be a misdiagnosis. He went to the doctor the next day and received his antibiotics (2 weeks of Doxycyclin (sp). I had been given the one dose of two pills treatment the very same day. A week went by and today my boyfriend went to find out his results. He was negative. I have never even winked at another man in a sexual manner. I don't know what to think. On top of this, on Jan 11th, 2007, I went to the walk in clinic with a chest cold and received the same presrcription my boyfriend was just given because of his "exposure" to Chlamydia. That means that if I contracted this, it would have had to been in the past five to six months. I don't understand. Can you get this from a toilet seat? I have researched this and everything says no. I am scared that my relationship is sinking because my boyfriend might not believe me. Could the fact that I had bacterial vaginosis have messed up my other test causing a false positive? I have my annual pap smear scheduled for tomorrow. It was scheduled before all of this other stuff happened. I am going to ask my doctor questions, but I can't sleep and I am scared to death my boyfriend will think I did something I didn't. He has been quiet all night. He says he believes me, but I don't know if he does because his ex-wife cheated on him. I am sorry this is so long. Thank you.
