ABSENTPERIOD: No Period for 4 months - Should I be Concerned?From: Effi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 19 May 2007 12:42:06 -0500 (CDT)
Hello. I am curious when I should be concerned about the absence of a period. My husband had a vasectomy many years ago, so we're not worried about pregnancy. I am 33, and we are both back in college. I did not have a cycle this entire semester, and now it's summer, and I still haven't had one. My last period was in January of 2007. I spoke with my mother, and she told me that some of the women in our family go through early menopause. Is 33 too early to begin to go through? I had a paternal aunt that died from colorectal cancer at 38, and my mother's side of the family is laden with breast and other forms of cancers. My last pap smear was in 2003, the year my husband had his vasectomy. I had been informed that I wouldn't need the pap smear again until I was 40, since I was coming off of birth control. My husband and I have recently relocated, and I have not been able to find a gynecologist as of yet. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
