INFERTILITY: amenorrhea, birth control pills or PCOS or other infertility? Help, worried to dath....From: Helter (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 13 May 2007 18:10:11 -0500 (CDT)
Background- currently 34 years old. For years I've mentioned to the OB when I'd go in that I hadn't had a period in years, they'd ask why, I'd say I didn't know, I thought it might be the birth control pills, and they would say nothing. I was on ortho-novum 35 for years then microgestin the last 2. No period in YEARS, at least 7. Thought the doctors would tell me it was a problem, so I didn't worry about it. One Dr. last year had me take a blood test, she said if it came out fine it was probably the pill. I even told my new OB about it, after being off the pill for 9 weeks and still no period. He just told me yesterday that it's not normal, should have been getting some periods, at least light ones. SO now they gave me progesterone to try to induce bleeding. However, reasearh I've done to my understanding is it won't let me know if I'm ovulating. 2X since I stopped my pills my breasts got sore, and I had cramps. no bleeding. Also, about 6 months ago, I had a huge simple cyst. They did an ultrasound- on the one ovary they saw the one simple cyst, on the other ovary they mentioned lots of tiny little cysts. My OB said this was normal with how ovaries are, but I am wondering if this could be indicative of PCOS? SO, can ortho-novum 35 and microgestin ever cause ammonorhea? Or am I looking at soemthing really bad re: fertility.
