Re: PREGNANCY: Pregnancy MassageFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Apr 2007 13:30:32 -0500 (CDT)
Massage used in pregnancy and labor and postpartum can be very effective, depending upon the person doing the massage. I think it has really come into its own. I am not sure it could be used to totlly prevent pain in labor, but it does alter the perception of nerves and could be very effective. Another helpful non medical approach to labor is hypnosis. There are several excelletn prorgrams out there...HypnoBirthing: http://www.hypnobirthing.com/ and Hypno-Beginning: http://www.hypno-beginning.com/ You might check out your community and see what's availalble. Both sites have practitioners listed, and there might be someone in your area. I think the doctor that developed Hypno-Beginning is out of Ontario, so you might find yourself an OB provider also, who does hypnosis. Massage therapy, along with other types of compelmentary modalities can be very helpful in labor.
