MENORRHAGIA: ememia and missed periodsFrom: stacey (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Apr 2007 09:39:50 -0500 (CDT)
I have been anemic for years. I dont get tired or anything from that and the dr's said I should be exhausted being as anemic as I am. I went to the dr last month and my hemogloybin was 8.9. She sent me to a blood dr and she said to talk 3 iron pills a day and have my blood checked weekly. She said if my levels didnt go up I would need to have further tests (colonoscopy etc) to see why I was anemic but I told her I have been like this for 15+ years. In two weeks taking iron my hemogloybin was normal. I have had heavy periods my whole life, really heavy. Like I go through a box of tampons in 3 days. I have my period every 21 days on the nose and it lasts for 3 days and only 2 times have I been late. After I started the iron pills I havent had a period. It comes really light for a few hours on the day I am suppose to start and thats it. Then 2 weeks later when I ovulate I spot once. Then the next month (last week) same thing. I called dr I go next month but they said its only a concern after 6 months of missed period. Does anyone know if iron pills can do this? My friend that is on birth control said that when she takes her pill there is also a week of iron pills in there and she has light periods and didnt know if it was from the iron. I am 38. I thought of pre menopuase but I dont have many of the spmptoms. Any ideas?
