CONTRACEPTION: What are my options for contraception after an endometrial ablation? From: Mrs. M (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 17 Apr 2007 20:49:54 -0500 (CDT)
I am scheduled to have laparoscopic surgery, a D&C, and endometrial ablation (Gynecare Thermachoice) in a couple of weeks. I've been reading over the brochures that my doctor gave me describing the various procedures, and the one on the Gynecare Thermachoice has caused me some concern because it keeps emphasizing the need for highly-effective contraception after the procedure. I understand why it is necessary, I would just like to know what some of the options are. I am 41 and I am not sure that OCPs are still okay to use. It sounds like you can't have a tubal ligation because there is an increased risk of tubal sterilization syndrome. What is generally recommended for contraception after an endometrial ablation? I will, of course, talk this over with my doctor later, I would just like to have some idea of what I should be considering. Thanks.
