Dear Momma,

I'm so sorry to read that you are going through this. I recently had my membranes rupture at @ 21-weeks gestion. (Like you, we weren't totally sure.)About 2 weeks later they *definitely* ruptured. I had no fluid left. I held onto the pregnancy until 23-weeks and 4 days...that's when I went into labor and gave birth to my first child, stillborn. He was beautiful and perfect.:) Just today my new perinatologist informed me my bloodwork shows that I have a "mutation" to one of my genes...it's fairly common and is considered a blood clotting issue. (It's called MTHFR, and basically it means the body doesn't metabolize folic acid correctly.) I had bleeding throughout my pregnancy, which can rupture membranes, and they think this may have been the cause. I would advise you to ask your doctor to check you for infections...get a urine test and vaginal test. You MUST find out your Group B Strep status. (If you're positive you need antibiotics IMMEDIATELY) My old doctors wouldn't give me any at my early gestation...my son had GBS in his bloodstream. Do not let anyone do digital exams (fingers) on you. It introduces infection. I didn't have to make the difficult decision whether to induce...follow your heart. There are miracles out there. Yet, recognize that you are very early and the risks to your child are very high right now. God Bless You and your family. -- Jo
