MENOPAUSE: osteoporosis and breat cancer treatmentsFrom: Gail (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Apr 2007 15:54:22 -0500 (CDT)
My mother had breast cancer a few months ago...she had a lumpectomy, and was fortunate that it was very tiny. She then went for a bone density test at the suggestion of the oncologist, and was told that she has osteopenia (I think that's what it's called). The doctor told her that it was borderline, but needed to be treated with medication. She was told that she might want to use Evista since it possibly can treat both the osteoporosis and the breast cancer, but she is so confused about the side effects of that and the actenol, which is the other medication that was recommended. Are there any articles that would discuss the comparison of both, and what would you recommend. As a sidenote, but from what I read and important sidenote, she just had oral surgery and was told that there is bone loss there, and she also had a blood clot when she deivered my older brother, but not since then. Her mother also had a blood clot about the age of 65. Help!
