GYNECOLOGIC: Pain After IntercourseFrom: Meg (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 6 Apr 2007 23:13:12 -0500 (CDT)
So glad to see the forums back! Thanks in advance to anyone who has suggestions for me. For the past 5 years I've had pain after intercourse-it starts about 36 hours After. I've been treated for everything under the sun, and I even had a large dermoid removed that was discovered during an ultrasound. I do have PCOS, and I also have a history of genital herpes. I'm currently taking suppressive meds. for the herpes, and I've tried a whole host of other remedies, most notably yeast treaments, which is what my most recent doctor says the problem is (she has done a culture, and we've also treated my husband). Other tests have come back normal, although I've had several doctors suggest I use estrogen cream as I have a significant problem with dryness. The problem is when I try the creams, or even just an otc lubricant, the whole area immediately becomes inflamed. I do believe that yeast is part of my problem, but I feel like the root of the problem is the dryness-like somehow the dryness leads to the infection? I honestly think that if I never had sex again (which isn't a good option), I'd never have another infection. I do have an appointment scheduled with a urologist to rule out cystitis (I also have problems with frequent urges to urinate and urge incontinence). I guess I'm just wondering what else I should be trying. Sometimes I just think I'll give up and try to live with it, but I really want to have a normal sex life. My husband is very loving and supportive, and I hate that we can't enjoy a normal relationship. Sorry this got so long-TIA for any suggestions.
