Re: MENOPAUSE: FSH test and bcpsFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 Mar 2007 10:42:28 -0500 (CDT)
If you are at all concerned about pregnancy, continue with the BCP. If you are on a BCP that can contribute to not having a period, which you are experiencing, and it would be hard to determine the difference between that and menopause. I think getting a FSH is valuable, but I don't totally rely on that. The definition of menopause is a year without a period, and no other birth control method used. If you don't honor that, sometimes the hormones will kick in, and pregnancy is possible. Some women go months without a period, and then oops here comes one, and they find themselves pregnant. But, the OCs can be working so well that there is not period also. YOu would need to be off of them for quite awhile before being able to determine if you are in menopause or not. Pat
