Thank you! I am not a doctor but I had two complex cysts removed without the taking of my ovaries. I would question any doctor who tells you BEFORE the surgery that your ovary needs to be removed. I was told it would depend on what they found during the surgery. Just removing the ovary seems to be an easy way out. A good doctor would try to save it if that's what you want. However, ovaries that have been operated on sometimes decide they don't want to work anymore... leading to premature menopause. If you will still have an ovary though, it probably won't matter. Do you have endo? My cysts were complex because they were from endometriosis. A complex cyst worries doctors because it could sometimes be cancer, but if you are young, probably not!! There are tons of different kinds of cysts and different reasons for them to be complex. Most are not going to kill you, just cause you a lot of pain. Simple cysts usually go away on their own. Complex cysts may not. Chocolate cysts from endo have to be removed surgically.
