OLIGOMENORRHEA: after being on pill for 17 years....From: Andreplants (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Mar 2007 14:32:58 -0500 (CDT)
Although all the literature refers to a quick return to fertility and even improved fertility for those with PCOS, etc, if on OCPs (I think longest f/u I've seen is 5 years?) - there is also evidence that prolonged exposure to the progestins causes changes in the gland ratios and atrophy. So does everyone really return to <35 day cycles or if someone is >35 days, without heavy bleeding, 5 months after last pill withdrawal bleed, could it be that their endometrium is still recovering? This person did not notice a return to "normal" cervical discharge yet, but only started noticing its resumption in the last two months to how she used to be. THe first two menses after cessation were similar in length and duration but then there has only been one further, mid feb. Other sx may suggest PCOS but not clear triad at all. Thanks - curious about this physiologic question. Ann
