Re: HYSTERECTOMY: Infections and Flu Like Illness every Month with Menstrual CycleFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Mar 2007 20:24:45 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, Tammy. PLease do not rush and have a hysterectomy. I have observed that some women develop interesting symptoms around their periods, and have seen it associated with prostiglandins. They get diarrhea or some sort of irritsble bowel reaction, and just do not feel good. I do not think it is considered part of the PMS constellation, but could be one category or type. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/406735 <<PMS also must be distinguished from certain other disorders that can be exacerbated during the late luteal or menstrual phase of the cycle, a phenomenon known as "menstrual magnification."[7] Migraines, seizure disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, and allergies are among the many conditions whose symptoms are subject to menstrual magnification.[2,8]>> You weren't too specific about what kind of 'infection' and 'flu like Illness' you were being treated for. And, I can't believe taking and antibiotic every month would be that healthy for your body. So, perhaps tracking your symptoms very carefully, seeing when it all starts and ends, and then looking at other factors that contribute to pms type symptoms. There was a very good article several years ago about this exact condition, but there doesn't seem to be much in the literature now. Perhaps this condition has a name. Anyway, keep investigating....
