PREGNANCY: gestational diabetes & baby health after delivery

Hi, I was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes at my 7th month of pregnancy, and have controlled sugar levels very well based on diet/exercise only. At 32 weeks my baby was 4.4lb, now at 37 weeks it's 8lbs +/- 0.5 lbs. If I'm controlling my sugar levels pretty tightly, why has the baby gained so much weight? The BPP and NST tests have come back good every week since my 32nd week, and based on this the doctor says the baby is healthy. However, I fear the remaining weeks it could continue gaining much more weight or could be born with some complication with breathing, jandice, etc. The doctor also said the amniotic fluid is a bit elevated, but it's a result of diabetes. Is there anything I can do differently to minimize my baby's chances of developing any complications? Leandra
