Uterin biopsy

I am 42 years old. I was to go back in 6 months because of abnormal pap, but I did not. I have always been every 28 days, lasting 4 to 5 days. During the past 8 to 9 months I have noticed that my cycle has been extremely heavy, clotting -- not normal for me. Didn't think anything about it. The past 4 months clots as big as my palm. No pain, just large heavy cycle. But what really got me concerned also in the past four months, I started saying, goodness, I cannot believe I have started again. There has been a pattern in the past 4 months that every 12 to 20 days I would have another period. But the every other period seemed to be different. It was more bright red blood, loose blood as though I had cut my leg and was bleeding. It would last on and off four about 3 to 4 days, but this inbetween bleeding was not the same as my heavy periods. Went to doc. felt that my uterus was enlarged. Took blood, hormones and thyroid everything was fine. Redid a Pap smear today. I also had a sonogram today and there were no fibroids or anything. Everything looked fine. She thought my uterus looked a little thick and wants to do a biopsy on Thursday to confirm everything is okay. I am being really stubborn right now, but don't you think if something was wrong with my uterus that something would have shown up in the sonogram? Please help me with your thoughts if you can?
