I am just turned 46, childless, and TTC. I had an early miscarriage several years ago. I am waiting for a suitable cycle to try medication and IUI again. I had Clomid, Gonal-F and IUI in Feb. Last week I had a v. short period (half-a-day proper flow; usually it is 2 days)and then a Day 2 FSH of 2.5 mIU and Estradiol 1,395 pmol/L (that's a UK measurement - I think the conversion ratio to US is approx 4:1, so 348?) Prolactin was also high at 992 mu. A scan on Day 3 showed a 20 mm follicle on the right ovary, and a 9 mm on the right. Estradiol on D3 was up again, to 1,570 (392). Mostly I have high FSH (from 12 to 21) but normal Estradiol (150 pmol/L, or 37 in the US). Except for May, and last month, and now this month when it is much higher than ever before. I have been told high estradiol is pushing down the FSH - but it means the same thing: failing ovarian reserve. Is this right? Is it unusual to have a 20 mm follicle on Day 3? The RE said it wasn't a LUF or cyst. How can he be sure? Thank you. Jen.
