Sarah, I had something similar happen to me. I had abnormal bleeding that looked as though it were really old (almost black) and I had it almost all the time no matter what point I was at during my cycle. When the doctor did a laporoscopy on me to get rid of enometriosis he also found that I had uterine fibroids all over and that the lining of my uterus is unusually thick, especially for a 20 year old. This may be what is causing the unusual bleeding for you. It can't hurt to ask your doctor. Mine didn't even really think about it when doing a pelvic exam just because I have had so many problems before but now that the fibroids are gone I am back to normal. Good luck with everything!
