Info on Chest Pain/Burning in Shoulder areaFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 21 Sep 2003 08:23:28 -0500 (CDT)
I have been searching to no avail. I went to the doctor, and she did a few tests to elimate heart problems, and said to take ibuprofen as it is probably just an inflamed muscle in the chest (?) I have a regular "burning" that often gets a stabbing pain above my left breast and to the right of it, and under the arm pit. Also, directly behind these areas on my back. My left arm goes numb/tingly, and the pain is also sometimes in the shoulder blade as well. Additionally, I have noticed, (last night especially!) the pain stabs more so when I exhale. (somewhat more when I inhale, but A LOT when I exhale). There is always pain, or at least a heaviness there. The ibuprofen does not help at all. Once or twice I have had similar pain on the right side, but not a lot. All of the info I have found on my own online is about heart attacks. However, that is not the problem, as the doctor related. ANY leads would be greatly appreciated. I have not been exercising (dr.'s initial thought) and am not under any great amount of stress (her newest theory) that would cause a muscle problem---PLUS the pain is not where she said the muscle was.
