'short' femur length in 16 week ultrasoundFrom: Kevin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 Sep 2003 07:29:58 -0500 (CDT)
My wife had a 16 week ultrasound on Monday. Yesterday afternoon, her OBGYN called to tell her that 1) The AFP results were "good" 2) Both femurs measured "short". Although no actual measurements were given, the doctor quickly scheduled a level 2 ultrasound for tomorrow. Can anyone help me with "getting smart" on this subject prior to the U/S and subsequent "genetic counseling" prior to my wife's appointment? ie: Is short femur measurements an absolute Down's Syndrome indicator or are there other indicators that need to be present to accurately predict Down's? Is there anywhere I can get information on statistically how many babies that are measured with short femurs are actually born with Down's? What important questions do I need to know to ask the doctor tomorrow? Any help or advice in this situation will be greatly appreciated. Please help me so that I can help my wife. Thanks.
