It stands for Dilation and Curettage and is a common and minor surgical
procedure performed on women. They may be done for abnormal bleeding
and may be useful in determining a woman's problem and possibly treating
it. A D&C is also often done when a woman has irregular menstrual
bleeding, bleeding between periods, heavy bleeding or bleeding that
lasts for an unusually long time.
