pPROM related to Amnio or infection? Statistics of recurrance? From: Stefani (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 Sep 2003 23:15:40 -0500 (CDT)
I am 34 and followed doc encouragement to have amnio at week 17 of pregnancy. At 19 week visit, after complaining of discharge w/foul odor, the doc's exam found my sac to be bulging out of cervix. I was admitted to hospital with AFI of 12, but since they detected amnio fluid and leak, they encouraged inducing. We denied and let nature take it's course. My wbc was 18,000. At 20 weeks, I had full rupture with gush of waters. Back to hospital, again denied inducing labor but had wbc of 22,000. Doc gave me IV of penicillin. WBC dropped back to 18,000. At 23 weeks, heavy bleeding,WBC%,000 + contractions. Delivered baby boy at 23 weeks. Every doctor asked "Who did your amnio". When I told them, they said they knew him, he was very good, and it was unlikely the amnio caused the infection + subsequent rupture. Nobody has ever told me WHAT I was infected with, nor will they confirm that it could have been from the amnio. Is there any way to tell if the bulge was from IC, or if the infection caused the rupture or was introduced via the amnio? The doc that did the amnio had to "poke" me twice, as he said a contraction formed where he tried to poke me the first time. He was making jokes about never having had this happen before, and that he was referencing instr. on how to do an amnio written on the back of his hand.(Now that is not at all funny)Still don't know if it's "normal" to poke someone 2x and use stints to move around and try to force the needle through the sac? What caused bulge, what caused infection, will it happen again?
-- Stefani Pollock pProm 17w, del 23 weeks unknown cause I have endless questions and am getting no answers. Can anyone please, please help.
