Thanyou Dr.Braun. >Streptococcus pyogenes is normal vaginal flora.

I had a vaginal culture with sensitivity and it showed sterp pyogenes, but my doc put me on antibiotics. I still have itching and diacharge. What reason would my gyn to put me on antibiotics if it is normal to have streptococcus pyogenes ?

>fungus culture with identification of the fungus and appropriate
>treatment based on that is indicated. If wet smear shows either
>trichomonas or bacterial vaginosis, treatment with metronidazol would be
>indicated.

1. Do specifically have to ASK them to test of fungus when I get a wet smear ?

2. Will a regular culture for fungus show trichomonas or bacterial vaginosis ? or should I specifically ask for 'culture for bacteria' and 'culture for bacteria' separately. I can get lab tests done here by myself and pay out of pocket- no problem.

3. Is there any specific thing I should ask about the tests themselves ie., what kind of assay (?) or something. I am worried, having this problem for 7 months is not ok and soon we willbe trying for a baby, dont want this to get in the way

thanks Nel
