Uterine Polyps

I just had a Endometrial Biopsy for post menopausal bleeding. I am 55 yrs. old. I had been on 1/2 strength hormones for palpitations before I went into menopause. I was on the hormones for 2 1/2 yrs and then went off last year when the hormone report came out. I got what I thought was my period and it lasted for 2 weeks and never really ended. It got less and less but when I called my gyne he suggested getting a biopsy. I did and the results came back negative but that I had a polyp. Apparently during the biopsy procedure part of the polyp was cut because I experienced very heavy bleeding for the next couple of days. I was close to going to the hospital but I called the answering service first. The doc who called me back (not mine) gave me Methergine to take for a couple of days. It finally stopped all of the bleeding about a day after I started the pills. My doc called me back with the biopsy results and told me what I had mentioned above about the polyp. My question is should they be removed or should I play a waiting game to see what happens next. He told me that with the next episode of bleeding I should have a D&C with a Hysteroscopy. I am very nervous about it being there since I do not know much about Uterine Polyps. I only had the one bleeding episode except for the aftermath of the biopsy. What is the norm for this kind of thing.
