Excessive/Prolonged BleedingFrom: Carol (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 31 Aug 2003 16:07:34 -0500 (CDT)
I have been bleeding (for the most part, lightly) for weeks. It began in the second week of June and has continued off and on until now (August 31). It seemed as if I were just spotting at first, but then I got what I thought was a period. It lasted only a couple of days, then I was back to spotting again. The bleeding completely stopped last week, but then all of a sudden, I got cramps that were heavier than normal and I began bleeding heavily, too ( soaking a large tampon every hour). Then today, I passed what I think is a blood clot. It is almost 2" long, dark red and soft-solid, with some white, root-like protrusion out one end. There is no chance I would be pregnant. My boyfriend has had a vasectomy for years. I am on my 4th day of heavy bleeding. It has slowed to only soaking a tampon every 2-4 hours, but it is still very heavy for me and I am still cramping. My periods have always been irregular (I am 32 and I've been menstruating since age 10), but I don't usually have cramping after the first day or two and my periods are not usually so heavy. Can you tell me what the clot-thing with the root might be? I had an examination and was checked for infections/STDs/and had a Pap Smear in July. Everything came back normal. Please help!
