Advice appreciated.......From: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 30 Aug 2003 22:28:38 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 39,had hysterectomy done 1 1/2 years ago, when ct scan came back as "highly suspicious for malignancy". Ob/gyn felt certain it was only adenomyosis and left ovaries in. After surgery, was told adenomyosis biopsied, but ob/gyn was shocked uterus didn't look like she expected from ct report. She also left endo, which had been in peritoneal cavity and on diverticular pockets on colon, for fear of damaging colon. (no one ever explained why radiology felt so certain there was a malignancy in the first place) Head of ob/gyn dept went through all of my biopsy, surgery and ct reports and was concerned about a mass on ovary the ob/gyn wrote up as endometrioma at surgery, but was never taken out or biopsied (nor were the endometriosis implants) and sent me for ultrasound. They weren't able to find one of my ovaries on either pelvic or transvaginal. I just found out she'd written it up as inconclusive and suggested followup ct scan in records. After having pain that wakes me up the past few months, went back and saw the head of dept again, who suggested removing ovaries, but stated she wanted ob/gyn to do this one also...but to schedule it when she would also be available, because she had some questions for her. At appt,ob/gyn said she wanted an ultrasound done first, to see if surgery could be done laprascopically. They at first had suggested 6 month followup from pelvic, but ended up changing to 4-6 weeks after doing transvaginal. I'm just confused as to why wait for more followup, since surgery had already been planned on. From what I understand, the cystic masses were on left and pain has been on right. I appreciate your time...thank you.
